| This week my dad, aunty Katie, and I flew to San Diego and drove to Mexico for the NSSA Sweet Sixteen event at San Migeul. On Wednesday evening my Uncle Davey and Uncle Tom picked us up from the airport and we drove across the border. We stayed at a friend's house that night. It was a beautiful house right in front of the beach. In the morning, Uncle Davey and I went for a surf right in front of the house. To my suprise the water was freezing!!! I couldn't believe it! I was in Mexico, it was supposed to be warm.
Later on we drove down to the contest site for my Uncle Davey's heat. When we got there they were calling for alternates in the main event (The No fear Mexican Surf Fiesta) so my dad decided to sign me up. The waves looked really good. It was a pebble beach and the wave was a right point break; it reminded me so much of Lowers. After waiting for a while they called my name and I had gotten into a heat. It all happened so fast that I really didn't have time to think. I was super stoked to get the chance to surf. I was kind of nervous though because I had never practiced out at the break before so it would be my first time in my heat. I got kind of lucky and ended up making my heat. I was so happy! The funny thing was, when I got in from my heat my dad told me that before I paddled out he noticed that my center fin box was cracked and starting to come out. Fortunately it didn't and it worked out okay. (continued on Oct. 6 journal entry) |
